Beluga Whale

The beluga whale is an awe-inspiring mammal. I will never forget the first time I spotted a beluga in the wild. I was flying in a Coast Guard helicopter approximately 500 ft above sea level when I saw her, a mother beluga with her calf. The contrast of their white bodies against the blue ocean was striking. As I was taking in the beauty of these two whales, the helicopter pilot started calling out more and more belugas. It turns out there were dozens of them just a few kilometres off of Tuktoyaktuk where we were set to land.

Seeing not just one beluga, but dozens, scattered over just a short distance is a sight that is now engrained in my memory. My hope for this website is that it may bring you a greater sense of the beauty that is the beluga whale.

This page is new today - 10:36:44 (PST) 2010-04-09 and under constuction. My hope is that it will grow rapidly and continue to grow. For now enjoy the videos below and check back often for updates. Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions.
